February 3, 2011 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Zone of Focus is a juried, black and white photography exhibition and competition for high school students. In this, its eleventh year, students will compete for cash awards and prizes in traditional and digital categories. This year's jurors are Michael Schwager, Sonoma State University professor of Art History; Sibylla Herbrich, teacher of photojournalism at San Francisco State University and Santa Rosa Junior College; Luz Elena Castro, professional photojournalist and Jennifer Bethke, Education Curator at the Sonoma County Museum. There are several hundred submissions each year from public schools, private schools, home-schooled students and those on independent study from around the country. Many cash prizes will be given for Best in Show, poster selection, category place awards and honorable mentions. Under the artistic direction of Tanya Braunstein, head of the Santa Rosa High School photo program, and in an ongoing collaboration with ArtQuest, Friends of ArtQuest and Sonoma County Museum. Photographs chosen for the exhibit will be on display from May 7 through June 26, 2011. The opening reception is Friday, May 6, 5-7 pm at the Sonoma County Museum. Historically, the show has been funded by donations from local businesses, individual donors and nominal entry fees, with cash and prize awards totaling $4,000. Contact information |
